Ueno park – Travel guide 2024

Ueno Park, located in the Taito ward of Tokyo, Japan, is one of the country’s most famous, oldest public park and it’s FREE. 

 

 

The park was established in 1873, making it one of Japan’s oldest public parks. The land originally belonged to the Kan’ei-ji Temple, which was a major temple during the Edo period. After the Meiji Restoration, the temple grounds were converted into a public park.

Ueno Park is renowned for its cherry blossoms or sakura. If you plan to visit Japan and witness the beauty of sakura specially here at Tokyo, book your flights between late March to early April, the park attracts millions of visitors who come to enjoy hanami (cherry blossom viewing).

Ueno Zoo

Ueno zoo is considered as the oldest zoo in Japan, founded in 1882. It houses a variety of animals, including the famous giant pandas and extinct rhinoceros.

 

Entrance Fee: 

adult (16-64 years old)- 600 yen

Senior (65 years old) – 300 yen

Student (13-15 years old) – 200 yen

Children (0-12 years old) – free

Shinobazu Pond

A large pond divided into three sections: one for boating, one covered with lotus plants, and another with a shrine dedicated to Benzaiten, the goddess of fortune.

How to go to Ueno Park?

1. From Ueno Station, take the exit at Shinobazo. 

2. Walk for about 6 minutes going to the park.
