How to buy JR Tohoku pass/JR East Pass ?
There are three methods you can purchase JR East pass: Ticket Vending Machine, Online, and JR East Travel Service Center. Please note that you will need your original passport (not photocopy) to purchase the Pass, or else the staff will not issue a pass for you.
Once you have purchased the pass, it is essential to activate it before you start using it. Activation can be done at any JR East Travel Service Center or at a designated JR East Pass exchange office. Simply present your pass and passport to the staff, and they will activate it for you. The pass validity period will start from the date of activation.

- You can purchase Tohoku pass using a ticket vending machine with a passport scanner. You cannot purchase Tohoku pass using Ordinary ticket vending machine.
