Let me share with you our first-ever onsen experience here in Fuua Ocean Spa which is part of Korakuen Bay Resort Atami. The resort offers a free shuttle from Atami station going to their place but we chose to walk just to explore the place.
Going to the Japanese onsen means enjoying a public bath NAKED with other people including strangers. It may appear odd at first but you will get used to it. Just a tip from a friend, “ Don’t mind them! They don’t know that you are ashamed. Be confident!”. Anyways, we are here to enjoy ourselves.
Before you book your onsen experience, there are a few things you need to know to make the most of your visit. Let me share with you some things to be mindful of when going to Fuua Ocean Spa.

Onsen Rules
Onsen etiquette is essential to ensure everyone’s comfort and safety. Make sure you understand the rules before entering the bath area. For example, you must be completely naked, and people with tattoos are not allowed in most onsen due to their association with the yakuza, a Japanese mafia. Also, washing your body thoroughly before entering the onsen is customary to keep the water clean.
For Fuua Ocean Spa, here’s the list of things you should take note of before going to the onsen:
DONTS
- Aged 0-3 years old are not allowed to enter. Aged 4 years old to elementary school must be with their guardian of the same sex.
- Tattoos are not allowed.
- Drunk people are not allowed. Skin and infectious diseases are not allowed.
- No Food.
- No Smoking.
Bring the Right Supplies
Most onsen provides towels for washing and drying, but if you’re picky about towels’ quality, you may want to bring your own. Also, bring a small towel to place on your head or to cover yourself while walking around the onsen area.
Fuaa Ocean Spa offers not only a towel but a kimono for you to wear for your stay.
Time Your Visit
Onsen experiences vary depending on the time of day and the season. In the morning, onsens tend to be less crowded, while evenings can be busier. Also, if you visit during the winter, you can enjoy the contrast of the hot water and cold air, which is a unique experience.
We chose a 5 PM to 10 PM schedule to enjoy stuning night view from the top and to have a goodnight sleep after onsen bath. I bet you really can’t stop your eyes from falling asleep after an onsen bath.
Don't Rush
Onsens are meant for relaxation, so take your time and enjoy the experience. Don’t rush through washing your body or soaking in the water. Take the opportunity to slow down, unwind, and embrace the moment.
Fuaa Ocean Spa Review
Location
If you’re looking for the ultimate relaxation and rejuvenation experience, Fuaa Ocean Spa in Atami, Japan, should be at the top of your list. Located on the top floors of the Korakuen Bay Resort (5th floor -onsen for men, 7th floor – onsen for women), this spa offers a luxurious and superb environment with breathtaking views of the ocean and surrounding mountains.
Interior
The Spa’s interior is modern and elegant, with a minimalist design that immediately puts you at ease. The space is designed to create a calming ambiance that encourages relaxation and rejuvenation, making it the perfect retreat for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. They have cozy and Instagramable lounges where you can relax and even sleep after a good bath.
Spa Experience
One of the highlights of Fuaa Ocean Spa is its commitment to sustainability and eco-friendliness. The spa uses only natural and organic products in its treatments, ensuring you’re not exposed to harmful chemicals or toxins. This approach to wellness extends to the spa’s use of renewable energy sources and its focus on minimizing waste and reducing its carbon footprint. I cannot compare this spa to another since this is my first time but I can tell that it really set my standard high.
This spa is not the typical Japanese Onsen, but we enjoyed our stay there. It is the best reward we can give ourselves after a year of hard work.
Food Experience
After taking onsen, we went to the relaxation area located on the fourth floor. The atmosphere and the music is very relaxing. We already had our dinner so we only tried Atami’s Purin and coffee located on the third floor.
As always, the dessert was good. I highly suggest their Purin when you visit this spa. It’s 5 out of 5 for me. If you like to try Harbor’s W Dinner set, refer to the photo below for your reference.
Service Experience
Fuaa Ocean Spa offers a variety of treatments, including massages, facials, and body treatments. All treatments are customized to your individual needs and preferences, ensuring that you get the most out of your spa experience. The spa’s expert therapists use a variety of techniques and modalities to help you relax and rejuvenate, leaving you feeling refreshed and revitalized. Their facilities are amazing because they have free skin care and even make ups.
Onsen Experience
Of course, no visit to Fuaa Ocean Spa would be complete without a soak in the onsen. The outdoor onsen overlooks the ocean, providing scenic views that add to the overall experience. The water is kept at the perfect temperature, ensuring that you can soak for as long as you like without feeling uncomfortable. With their outdoor standing hot spring, you can feel the ocean breeze while enjoying the view, especially at night.
The spacious onsen area also ensures that you have plenty of room to relax and unwind. Sadly I cannot show you what’s inside because its not allowed to take photos obviously, you can search it on their official website to know more.
Conclusion
Fuaa Ocean Spa is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to indulge in a luxurious and relaxing spa experience. The spa’s stunning setting, commitment to sustainability, and personalized treatments make it a standout among Atami’s many spa options. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, a visit to Fuaa Ocean Spa is sure to leave you feeling rejuvenated and refreshed.
